OIL 003 - Acidic Degreasing Chemicals

Acidic degreasing is also applied for parts that require rust cleaning. Since rust cleaning can be done with acidic chemicals, it is necessary to use these types of products. It can be used for aluminum, iron, steel, zinc alloy parts.
Although acidic degreasing baths can operate without heating, degreasing and rust removal is more effective if they operate hot. Their general ingredients are surfactants, emulsifiers, inhibitors and acids (phosphoric, sulfuric, hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, etc.). Since the process solutions have strong acidic property, the bath equipment should be made of PP or stainless steel.
It can be worked at concentrations of 5 - 50% depending on the contamination on the surface of the metal. The process time increases as the bath concentration decreases and can reach 1 - 2 hours. Although high temperatures are not required, heating may be recommended as it will increase the reaction rate with heat. The points to be considered in acidic degreasing baths are total acid and time. A decrease in bath concentration decreases the degreasing rate and requires additives.
Corrosion of iron and steel parts can be prevented by the use of products containing inhibitors. The acid inhibitor minimizes metal corrosion and extends the lifetime of the degreasing bath after rust and scale removal. For aluminum surfaces, the use of acid inhibitors is usually not necessary as little corrosion is desired.
Acidic degreasing products are especially preferred before pickling in hot dip galvanizing lines.

Method of Use:

A concentration between 5-20%, at a temperature of 20-50 °C and a process time of 2-10 minutes is ideal.
